Evolving With Purpose

Gemma Dutton

With the ongoing volatility of green coffee prices, it could’ve been the time to start settling for lower grade, cheaper coffees. Instead, we’re doubling down on our commitment to finding and sharing high quality, value driven coffees, with a stronger focus than ever on working closely with producers at origin.

We’re making some exciting changes to our two main blends, Embassy and Ranger. For Embassy, we’re working towards turning this blend into a Single Estate blend, and Ranger will be taking the place of “old Embassy” as a seasonal Regional blend. Read on to find out what this all means and how it changes what you’re drinking.

A New Era for Embassy Blend

Our flagship Embassy blend has always showcased high-quality coffees in an approachable way. Historically, it featured Regional coffees from Brazil and Colombia, with seasonal changes to a third component. These Regional coffees are collected from hundreds of farmers within a shared area, who grow similar varieties and process their coffees together. Some Regional coffees are part of Reserve Programs, helping smallholder farmers reach wider markets, with Cofinet supporting them through education and financial aid. We have been proud to share these coffees in our Embassy blend.

As we look ahead, Embassy will evolve into a Single Estate blend. Crafted from coffees grown on individual farms and aligned with the harvest calendar, Embassy is on its way to becoming fully traceable back to the farms it comes from.

This shift allows us to build direct relationships with farmers, visit them at origin, support them where needed, and ensure they’re paid fairly for the coffees they grow.

For the next few months, Embassy will be a 50/50 blend of two exceptional coffees:

  • Jairo Arcila Washed Caturra from Colombia (A Single Estate coffee from Jairo’s Santa Monica farm)
  • Edido Natural Grade 2 from Ethiopia (A Regional coffee grown by 800 smallholder farmers in the Edido area)

This transitional blend will carry us through until our second Single Estate coffee arrives in January, replacing the Edido. From then, every bag of Embassy will be fully traceable back to origin, reinforcing our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and fair pricing.

Embassy remains a modern blend, roasted to shine both black and with milk, and offering a complex, fresh, and exciting experience in every cup. As Embassy transitions into a more premium, fully traceable blend, a price increase will follow in the coming months, reflecting the higher value, quality and traceability. This is where Ranger steps in.

The New Role of Ranger Blend
Ranger is also evolving, and is now a seasonal Regional blend, taking the place that Embassy has historically held. Ranger is now made up of higher quality coffees, while remaining accessible. Like Embassy before it, Ranger supports both ends of the coffee supply chain; empowering small-lot producers while remaining accessible to our customers. Its seasonal nature means we can select from a broader range of coffees aligned with the harvest calendar. The components of Ranger are now:

  • Guatemala Huehuetenango
  • Brazil Igregia
  • Peru San Ignacio

The result is a smooth, sweet espresso with a silky body and mild acidity, delicious both black and white; a flavour profile combining elements of both of our previous Embassy and Ranger blends.

Our Ongoing Commitment
Every change we make to our offering comes after careful research and conversation. These decisions are guided by our mission to source and share quality coffee that’s better for both people and the planet, from farmers to roasters to the cup in your hands.

We’re always looking for ways to do better and remain transparent about what we’re doing and why. While these updates may have been a little tricky to explain, the short version is: we’re proud to share these elevated versions of our two most popular blends, and excited for the next step in our commitment to Better Coffee.

As always, we’re happy to chat about our coffees and answer any questions you may have.
