About
Born into a traditional coffee farming family, Diofanor Ruiz has been involved in farming from a young age. In 2005, he purchased his first farm, La Divisa, which sits at 1950 metres above sea level in Buenavista, Quindio. Diofanor lives on the farm along with his wife and son.
Shortly after purchasing his own farm, Diofanor tasted his coffee for the first time – at that time it was not normal for farmers to taste their own coffee as there was a large gap in knowledge. On tasting his coffee, Diofanor decided to move away from traditional coffee growing methods and focus on quality, which has had a huge impact on his livelihood.
When our Director Sugar visited Colombia earlier this year, he had the opportunity to meet Diofanor and take a tour around La Divisa - he even brewed them a coffee to enjoy while they spoke on his veranda. Sugar was blown away by Dionfanor’s passion, workmanship, and careful attention to detail. The photos shared here were taken by Sugar; we think you’ll agree that Diofanor's passion and excitement for coffee shines through!
The variety
This coffee is 100% Pink Bourbon. Until recently, it was thought that this variety was a hybrid of Red and Yellow Bourbon varieties, called “Pink” Bourbon due to its pink tinge. However, this theory has been disproven, and it is now said that Pink Bourbon is most likely to be an Ethiopian Landrace variety which was found to be growing in Colombia.
