Sebastian Gomez
Following the success of our first Gesha release last year, we couldn’t wait to bring you the next one! This vibrant natural Gesha comes from young producer Sebastian Gomez. Bursting with tropical fruit notes, coffee blossom florals and a champagne-like finish, it’s a true standout on the cupping table.
At the end of May, our Director Sugar had the incredible opportunity to travel to Colombia with the Cofinet team. During the trip, he met inspiring farmers like Sebastian, whose dedication and passion were truly moving. On arrival at La Divisa, Sugar spoke with Absalón, who was hand sorting a Castillo lot and has worked at La Divisa for 15 years. Hearing the stories of these farmers deepened our appreciation and commitment to supporting their efforts, and to sharing their exceptional coffees with you. Sip, savour and enjoy!
The photos to the left are from Sugar’s visit to La Divisa, and you can read Sugar’s Field Notes and Reflections Journal post here.

About
Sebastian Gomez is a young farmer who comes from a traditional coffee family; he and his father own Finca La Divisa, a 13-hectare farm located in Circasia, in the Quindío region of Colombia. Sitting at 1700 m.a.s.l, they grow varieties such as Pink Bourbon, Castillo, Chiroso and Gesha, and also grow fruit trees such as feijoas, avocados and guava, along with beautiful shade trees.
Sebastian’s father John has been working with coffee for over 30 years, and has looked after La Divisa since he purchased it in 1995. Sebastian grew up around coffee, but became more involved in 2014 when he returned to Colombia from his travels, where he witnessed the specialty coffee movement in other countries. At that time, they decided to focus on specialty coffee, planting rare varieties. Once the team started growing specialty coffee, their focus changed from quantity to quality, and have seen a radical improvement in their crops. Sebastian is grateful to Cofinet for their technical assistance and support they have provided, and in recent years Sebastian has become renowned for his amazing quality, rare coffees.
Sebastian and his wife both work on the farm and administrative matters, with assistance from their small team, including farmhand Absalón who has worked on the farm for 15 years. In his spare time, Sebastian enjoys spending time with his family; he loves to skate, and to walk around the park with his baby.
The variety
This micrlot is composed entirely of the Gesha variety. Originating from Abyssinia, Ethiopia in 1931, this variety found its way to Panama and has since become renowned for its unique flavour profile.
